Football Helmet Safety

With football season about to get underway, Duke concussion specialist Jeff Bytomski, DO, shares his thoughts on a new football helmet rating system that should give parents answers about their child's safety.

Head injuries are a leading cause of emergency room visits among high school athletes, and nearly 30 percent take place on the football field.

In this report, WRAL (CBS-TV) investigates what is being done to improve safety on the field, and Duke concussion specialist Jeff Bytomski, DO, comments on a new helmet rating system that he says parents can use to see where the helmet their child is wearing stands in terms of its safety and effectiveness.
