Duke Division of Plastic, Maxillofacial, and Oral Surgery
Whether as the result of an injury, surgery, or a health condition, a wound is something most everyone has experienced -- and our bodies are designed to mend.
Some wounds, however, are slow or difficult to heal, and they need specialized medical intervention.
That’s where the Duke Wound Management Institute comes in. A multidisciplinary program created to expertly treat problem wounds, the institute is staffed by specialized clinicians who work with each patient to develop a personalized treatment strategy.
Our physicians, nurses, physical therapists, hyperbaric medicine technicians, dieticians, and counselors partner with specialists in disciplines including vascular medicine, orthopaedic surgery, and plastic surgery.
We also work closely with our patients’ primary care physicians to promote seamless care -- and to develop personalized, effective wound management strategies for each patient.
In addition to providing state-of-the-art therapies, Duke’s wound management team advances patient care through ongoing involvement in research and education. Research initiatives are aimed at identifying standards of care, developing more effective wound management therapies, and evaluating and improving patient outcomes.
