Frequently Asked Questions about Duke Urgent Care

How long will I wait?

Usually, our prompt services are available an average of just an hour from check in to check out, but there are many factors that can change that significantly.

  • We evaluate patients as they sign in and take the more serious problems first -- even if that means taking them in front of other patients who arrived ahead of them. Otherwise, we take patients in the order that they arrive.
  • Patients who require laboratory tests or x-rays may be in the clinic longer while those procedures are performed. In all cases, our goal is to work quickly, but thoroughly, so you receive the best possible care.
  • Because we don’t operate by appointments, there will be busy times and slow times. Typically, we are slowest at mid-morning and mid-afternoon, and busiest at opening time, early evening, and just before closing time.

When do I pay for services?

Our policy is to receive full payment at the time of service, and we offer a self-pay discount. If you have a current insurance card you will need to pay your co-payment, coinsurance, or deductible. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards.

How can I get a copy of my medical record?

Your health record is considered confidential and information about your health is not released without your written consent. Letters and physician reports will be completed at your request with your written authorization.

Please allow 48 hours for us to complete your request. A fee may be charged for copying medical records or completing reports.

When are you open?

Our urgent care centers are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., 365 days a year, including weekend and holidays. Duke Urgent Care South is open 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., 365 days a year.

We have locations throughout the Triangle for your convenience, including Urgent Care Centers in Raleigh, Knightdale, Morrisville, and Durham.

Are you open during severe weather and after hours?

During severe weather, it is best to call and confirm that we are open.

For questions or help after business hours, we recommend that you contact your primary care physician or nearest emergency room.

Are orthopaedic specialists present at urgent care sites?

Duke orthopaedic specialists are on call to support urgent care needs. However, all urgent care providers are board certified and Duke credentialed, and they have extensive training in orthopaedics that enables them to treat most orthopaedic conditions.
