Nerve blocks are most commonly used to treat or diagnose pain related to nerve irritation. There are different types of nerve blocks depending on the type and location of pain.

What conditions warrant nerve blocks?

Nerve blocks may be useful in the treatment of pain that originates from the spine. A nerve block contains medication that will block the pain signal.

How long will I be in the hospital?

Nerve blocks injections are performed as an outpatient procedure. The injection only takes a few minutes to administer and begin to take effect.

What is the recovery once I get home?

You may have some pain and redness around the injection site. The procedural pain should go away in a day or so.

Make sure to talk with your physician regarding any specific limitations related to the type of nerve block that you have.
