A microdiscectomy is a surgical procedure in which a small portion of the vertebra or disc is removed to relieve pressure on a nerve.
Lumbar microdiscectomy is a spine treatment performed on patients who have lower extremity pain (radiculopathy or sciatica) due to a herniated disc.
Patients will be up and moving around within hours after the procedure. Most patients will have to spend just one night in the hospital.
Since patients are able to return home the day after surgery, light activities may be resumed within a few weeks after surgery. Make sure to talk with your physician regarding any specific limitations.
