Rehabilitation is a key part of transplantation.
Duke Physical and Occupational Therapy provides patients with the precautions, exercise, and activity guidelines to recover from heart or lung transplant.
Therapists work with patients in the hospital to get them on their feet and moving. Post-transplant, they offer a pulmonary rehabilitation course that includes exercise instruction, assistance, and monitoring.
Our therapy intervention places an emphasis on mobility and activities of daily life to aid in the return of gastrointestinal motility for liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation patients. Therapists instruct patients in precautions to prevent abdominal strain.
