Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant
Largest dedicated pediatric transplant program in the U.S.

Treatments

Patients who come to Duke Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program have frequently exhausted all of their other treatment options. They generally have a life expectancy of less than one year without a transplant.

Patients are usually seen within one to two weeks of their referral, despite a lengthy wait list, if it is determined that such speed is necessary.

If transplantation is determined to be the patient’s best option, donors can be identified within a week or two in most cases.

Diseases treated by the Duke Pediatric BMT Program include:

  • Acute leukemias (ALL, AML, ANLL, secondary AML)
  • Chronic leukemias (CML, JCML, JMML)
  • Myelodysplastic syndromes
  • Lymphoma (Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas)
  • Brain tumors
  • Neuroblastoma and other solid tumors
  • Immunodeficiency syndromes
  • Histiocytic syndromes
  • Platelet disorders
  • Bone marrow failure disorders
  • Inborn errors of metabolism
  • Hemoglobinopathies like sickle cell anemia and thalassemia
  • Refractory autoimmune diseases
