Patients who come to Duke Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant (PBMT) Program have frequently exhausted all of their other treatment options. They generally have a life expectancy of less than one year without a transplant.
Patients are usually seen within one to two weeks of their referral, despite a lengthy wait list, if it is determined that such speed is necessary.
If transplantation is determined to be the patient’s best option, donors can be identified within a week or two in most cases.
