Promoting the relief of suffering through compassionate care
The Pediatric Quality of Life Program (palliative care) at Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center offers comprehensive, family-centered care for children with complex, life-threatening, or chronic conditions.
Whether suffering is physical, emotional, social, or spiritual, the Pediatric Quality of Life team strives to relieve symptoms and treat conditions that cause distress and detract from a child's enjoyment of life.
Our multidisciplinary program draws on resources within the hospital, as well as those of home health agencies, hospice, and existing communities, such as faith communities. We work with the family's primary care team to augment existing services and assist families in making informed decisions regarding patient care and pain management from the initial diagnosis through death and bereavement, if that occurs.
