At the Duke Center for Palliative Care, our mission is to promote the relief of suffering for patients with advanced life-threatening illness and their loved ones, through compassionate care, innovative teaching, and pioneering research.

The Center for Palliative Care offers:

• Inpatient consultation service at Duke University Hospital
• Educational programs for medical students, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff

We are also involved in research on topics including:

• Effectiveness of symptom-directed therapies
• Improving communication between patients and their health care providers
• Better understanding the experience of seriously ill patients and their families
