Duke Occupational Mental Health Programs (OMHP) was formed in 1985 to provide a range of services to individuals and companies across the United States with the objective of assisting organizations to build healthier workplaces.

There are two separate programs that comprise Duke OMHP -- Duke Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Duke Professional and Personal Development (PPDP).

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

EAP is a workplace resource offered to organizations outside of Duke University. It is designed to enhance employee well-being and productivity job through resolution of job stress, personal challenges, and family problems interfering with work.

Duke EAP’s goal is to help employees and their immediate family members prevent small problems from becoming larger ones, and to provide the assistance they need to improve their professional, personal, and/or work life.

In addition, EAP also helps supervisors and managers work with employees to address their problems, seek and receive appropriate counseling or treatment, and improve workplace performance and/or behavior.

The program's customized services include:

  • Assessment, short-term counseling, and referral services
  • National EAP network
  • Employee orientations
  • Supervisor training and coaching
  • Talks, workshops, and safety seminars
  • Critical incident debriefing (CISD)
  • Supervisor referrals
  • Organizational and management consultation
  • Return to work evaluations
  • Fitness for duty coordination
  • Integrated EAP services
    • Behavioral health benefit plan management
    • Case management
    • Benefit design and fee structure consultation
    • Third party administrator coordination
    • Outpatient network coordination
    • Facility rate negotiations

Professional and Personal Development Program (PPDP)

Duke PPDP partners with individuals and organizations in providing consultation, professional seminars and customized workshops, executive/professional/life coaching, and career planning.

These are stand-alone services and can be purchased independent of EAP services.
