Lactation Services

Specially trained mother-baby nurses at Duke Birthing Center and The Birth Place at Durham Regional Hospital are available to help mothers who need a little guidance learning to breastfeed their babies.

These experienced board-certified lactation consultants with the Advanced Clinical Practice Department are available to inpatient moms and babies who could benefit from some extra assistance-helping mothers support infants with special needs, manage breastfeeding problems, and establishing and maintain a milk supply, if necessary.

Both Duke University Hospital and Durham Regional Hospital provide breastfeeding classes through the community education services at Teer House. Call 888-ASK-DUKE (888-275-3853) for more information.

Outpatient lactation consultations are offered by Duke Children’s Primary Care. To speak with the outpatient lactation consultant or schedule an appointment, call 919-620-5374 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
