Duke internal medicine physicians provide preventive, chronic, and acute care to their patients.

Preventive Care

Preventive care includes annual exams and well visits for flu shots or other vaccinations. Regular screenings -- such as Pap smears, prostate exams, and other diagnostic tests -- help to safeguard your health and well-being.

New preventive services that are being offered in certain practices include genetic testing for medical conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and blood clotting disorders. Genetic testing can also serve as a resource to you if you have chosen to have genetic testing done on your own as a consumer.

Chronic Care

Chronic care includes management of chronic illnesses and conditions that require long-term treatment and coordination of care, including hypertension, back pain, high cholesterol, asthma, and diabetes.

Acute Care

Acute care includes treatment for occasional illnesses and injuries, such as coughs and colds, urinary tract infections, abdominal pain, and chest pain.
