Duke hospitalists are a team of physicians who are committed to delivering safe, evidence-based, comprehensive, compassionate, and cost-effective care to inpatients.

When you are admitted to the hospital, your primary care physician will inform the hospitalist about your medical history and treatment needs. This regular communication about your care and condition will continue during your stay at the hospital and when you are discharged.

You can expect to be visited by a hospital physician every day during your stay, though it may not be the same person each time. Should you need to see any specialists while at the hospital, the hospitalist will arrange that for you.

Upon leaving the hospital, you should make an appointment to see your primary care physician for a follow up appointment.
