Kara Mitchell is the Wellness Manager at Duke Health and Fitness Center. She came to DHFC in 2000 and has worked with both the nutrition and exercise programming ever since. She is a registered dietitian (RD) through the American Dietetic Association and also a licensed dietitian (LD) in the state of North Carolina. In addition to her nutrition expertise, she also holds a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology and is certified through the American College of Sports Medicine as a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist. An area of clinical specialty for Kara is diabetes. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) and Clinical Associate through the Duke School of Nursing where she teaches a course on Diabetes and Exercise. Other areas of interest include healthy weight control, heart disease, dyslipidemia, hypertension, sports nutrition, pre/post partum and vegetarian nutrition.
Kara enjoys teaches a variety of group exercise classes (aerobics, strength, cycle, kickboxing, Latin dance, Pilates, yoga, etc.) here at DHFC. She has worked directly with the Getting on Track Weight Loss Program since 2000 and has extensive work with individuals looking for weight loss. Kara enjoys working with individuals to promote a holistic healthy lifestyle, incorporating nutrition, exercise and behavior modification to achieve long-term success and health.
