Executive Health Frequently Asked Questions

Share

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about the Duke Executive Health Program. If your questions are not answered here, please give us a call at 919-660-6606.

Are your programs covered by health insurance?

The Duke Executive Health Program does not file insurance for the basic package. Payment is required at the time of visit unless previous arrangements have been made with your company for billing. Additional testing may or may not be covered by insurance. We encourage you to contact your health insurance provider and ask about any possible coverage for the additional tests.

Does the Duke Executive Health Program conflict with my primary care physician?

No. We do not replace your primary care physician, either. The comprehensive health assessment is a thorough preventive and diagnostic exam, which emphasizes healthy lifestyles, risk factor management, and changing personal behavior. Each person leaves the program with a schedule for periodic health maintenance, plans to manage specific problems and exercise, stress management, and nutrition plans. A copy of your health plan and test results will be sent to you within approximately three to four weeks of your departure from the program.

We encourage you to furnish your primary care physician with a copy of this summary so that it can become part of your permanent medical record. Your Duke Executive Health Program physician remains available for consults for both you and your primary care physician, if needed. Your Duke Executive Health Program physician cannot serve as your primary care physician.

How far in advance do I need to schedule my appointment?

Please allow at least four to six weeks for the first available appointment. If you require additional tests or consultations not included in the basic package (see Additional Options), you may need to allow an additional six to eight weeks depending on the types of tests or consultations you require.

Please note that if you require additional studies, it may extend your stay by one or two days. Our program coordinator will be happy to discuss the options with you at the time your appointment is scheduled.

Before scheduling an appointment, complete the online registration.

After an Executive Health physician reviews your responses, you will be contacted about your appointment time.

How long is the Comprehensive Health Assessment?

For a new patient, the initial examination takes between six and seven hours. For a returning patient, please allow four to five hours. If your appointment requires additional tests, one to two additional days may be needed. For more information call 919-660-6606.

Is there an example of a typical day?

Yes. Preparing for Your Visit details a typical day. These are estimates only. Keep in mind that appointments requiring additional tests or consultations may take 24 to 48 hours longer.

What should I wear?

You will need comfortable athletic shoes and loose-fitting clothing (preferably a front-button shirt or blouse) since you will undergo a treadmill exercise test.

What do I need to bring with me?

  • A comfortable outfit to exercise in, including athletic shoes.
  • Your insurance card, so that we may keep a copy on file. If additional health studies are needed, your insurance provider may cover these additional tests.
  • A copy of your most recent health evaluation. If you have had outside consultations or a radiological procedure, please bring a copy of the recent study and the physician's notes.

Is access to the Internet available?

Yes, we have a computer with Internet access in our suite, available for your use.

Should I eat or drink prior to my appointment?

Please do not eat or drink anything except water, after 11:00 p.m. the night prior to your examination. On the morning of your examination you may take any regular medications and drink plenty of water, unless directed otherwise by the physician.

Where can I get information about nearby restaurants, hotels, and things to do?
