Atherosclerosis: Making Sense of Hardened Arteries

Share

Our endocrinologists offer specialized diagnosis and treatment of lipid disorders. These disorders affect the way cholesterol is produced, used, and carried through the body.

Expert Diagnostic Tests

We offer advanced diagnostic tests to determine if patients are suffering from lipid disorders and to create a targeted plan of treatment based on the diagnosis.

Diagnostic tests that we offer include:

  • Advanced lipoprotein testing and cardiovascular risk assessment
  • Noninvasive imaging for atherosclerosis assessment
    • CT cardiac scoring for coronary calcium
    • Carotid intima-media thickness by ultrasound
    • Brachial artery reactivity by ultrasound

Targeted Treatment Options

Duke offers a variety of treatment options and therapies to control lipid disorders. We focus on helping patients control their cholesterol through targeted dietary counseling, including the Duke Lipid Clinic Low Glycemic Diet.

We offer combination lipid drug therapy when needed and pair this with expert management of lipid drug side effects, ensuring that your care is both effective and safe.
