The path to an eating disorder is a complex one. Eating disorders usually arise from a combination of genetic, environmental, and individual factors that are unique for each person.
Thus, we feel that effective treatment requires a multidimensional approach that engages the person as well as his or her social context in the treatment process.
Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians from diverse specialties including adolescent health, gastroenterology, endocrinology, child and adult psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nutritionists, and physical therapists. These physicians work together with you to enhance the effectiveness of care.
Eating disorder treatment starts with an assessment of current symptoms and a determination of how these symptoms have helped an individual cope in the past or are currently helping the individual to cope with ongoing stressors or life circumstances.
Treatment then addresses both the symptoms themselves, and the functions they serve for the person. The goal of intervention is not just to reduce symptoms, but also to provide the individual with more effective coping skills.
Inherent in this approach is our belief in the strength of people and their capacity to learn from experience and to grow as they seek to move forward in their lives. Our treatment team is committed to guiding and supporting people as they work to recover from their eating disorders and build rich, meaningful lives.
