Healthy Choices

As a participant in the Duke Diet & Fitness Center program, you will quickly learn how to make healthy choices about the foods that fuel your body.

During your initial assessment, a registered dietitian will help you plan your personal nutrition program, which includes three nutritious meals and a snack each day.

The center's meals provide a proper balance of nutrients and allow you to choose from among several options including a more traditional low fat, higher carbohydrate approach, a moderate carbohydrate approach, and a low carbohydrate approach.

All plans are sufficiently low in calories to promote safe and effective weight loss, and they are low in sodium but high in taste. You'll be surprised to discover how well and how much you'll be able to eat and still lose weight.

Nutrition knowledge doesn't end in the dining room. Weekly nutrition lectures and group workshops will teach you how to create a healthy, individually tailored meal plan that fits within your lifestyle. Your experience is further enhanced with interactive grocery store tours, cooking demos, and guided restaurant eating experiences that truly make this a total immersion approach to teaching nutrition.
