The Duke Diet & Fitness Center program is an extensive health care encounter, which is outside the scope of what most insurance providers consider traditional levels of medical services, and is therefore not usually covered by insurance.

The cost of a weight-loss program may be tax deductible as a medical expense when prescribed by your physician to treat obesity. Check with your tax professional or visit www.irs.gov for additional information.

Medical savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, and health reimbursement arrangements may also be used for reimbursement of obesity treatment expenses based on your doctor’s recommendation.

Consult with your tax advisor to determine if the fees are deductible.

Specialty consultations for evaluations and services beyond those available at the Duke Diet & Fitness Center may be available at the clients' expense. Clients who would like specialty appointments are encouraged to notify us at least two months in advance of their visit to allow sufficient time for scheduling.

New Clients Program

These rates apply to new clients and those who have not participated in a Diet & Fitness Center program for more than 10 years.

Return-New Clients Program

These rates apply to clients who participated in a DFC program more than five -- but less than 10 -- years ago. Return-new clients get the benefits of the new program at discounted rates.

New and return-new fees include:

• A thorough medical evaluation with a clinician, including a history and physical exam and basic laboratory testing (comprehensive metabolic panel, TSH (thyroid), hemoglobin, fasting lipid profile). Clients who stay two weeks or longer may also receive a lipid profile at the end of their stay.
• Assessments with nutrition, fitness, and behavioral health staff.
• Complete use of facilities (as permitted by exercise prescription from the DFC Medical staff).
• A weekly check-in with medical, fitness, and nutrition; check-ins with behavioral health and a free exit coaching session upon request.
• Classes and program materials.
• Saturday lifestyle workshops.
• A complimentary personal training session.
• Three meals and two snacks each day

Depending on your medical history, an exercise tolerance test may be required for your safe participation in our exercise program -- additional fees will apply.

Reservation and cancellation policies for new and return-new clients

Return Clients Program

These fees apply to graduates of a DFC program who have been away from the DFC for at least two months, but less than five years. Return programs begin every Monday.

Per Week Fees

January - August $925

September - December $825

Return fees include:

• A medical re-assessment, including a focused history, physical exam, and limited laboratory testing that includes a comprehensive metabolic panel and lipid profile. Returnees who stay two weeks or longer may also receive a lipid profile at the end of their stay.
• Complete use of facilities (as permitted by exercise prescription from the DFC Medical staff).
• Weekly check-ins with medical, fitness, and nutrition; check-ins with behavioral health and lifestyle coaching upon request.
• Classes and program materials.
• Saturday lifestyle workshops.
• Three meals and two snacks each day.

DFC Lite Program

$500 per week

DFC Lite program fee includes:

• Three meals and healthy snacks each day
• Supervised exercise classes in the pool and gym
• Access to the DFC facility
• Annual review and check-ins with on-site Health Navigator

Lodging

Program fees do not including lodging. Our admissions coordinators will provide you with options regarding accommodations. Please note that you are responsible for arranging your own accommodations.

Enhanced Medical Assessment for Return Clients

An enhanced medical assessment is available to all return clients. This package includes the more thorough medical history, physical exam and panel of laboratory testing provided to new and return-new clients. The enhanced medical assessment may be particularly appropriate for a return client wishing to address multiple or complex issues during their stay at the Diet & Fitness Center.
