Effective, comprehensive treatment for children and adolescents
Duke provides diagnostic evaluations and an array of ongoing treatments for children and adolescents with mood and anxiety disorders.
Cognitive behavior therapy for anxiety disorders includes general anxiety (excessive worry), anxiety in social settings, separation anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Mood disorders include depression and bipolar disorder (manic-depressive disorder).
For depression, some children and adolescents can be treated with cognitive behavior therapy, and some will need medication or a combination of both treatments. Bipolar disorder requires medication, usually combined with individual or family therapy.
