Pigmented Lesions

The Pigmented Lesion Clinic offers expertise in early melanoma detection. Our dermatopathologists have expertise in melanocytic diagnoses.

The clinic is available to patients with dysplastic nevi, melanoma, or a marked family history of melanoma.

Our services include:

  • Dermoscopy: a process where a doctor uses a scope-like instrument to enhance the lesion
  • Mole mapping (MoleMapCD®): a photographic image evaluation system for early detection of melanoma and skin cancer. Total body digital images are obtained and these images are used to track changes in the appearance of moles over time and detect new ones.
  • Lesion removal

Patients should have pathology reports for all skin lesions previously removed. Also, if presenting for re-excision of a lesion, the slides should be forwarded to Duke prior to the visit for review by our pathologists.
