Duke Department of Dermatology was established in 1939. It was the first dermatology training program developed in the southeastern United States.
The program was founded by J. Lamar Callaway, MD (Dr. Cal), an outstanding clinician and teacher, and a pioneer in academic dermatology. He established a tradition of excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research that remains the standard for our department.
