Adolescent primary care

Share

The Duke Adolescent Medicine Program offers consultative services to support primary care clinicians in the diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management of a variety of complex issues that arise in adolescence and young adulthood.

Our adolescent medicine trained staff places a priority on evidence-based decision making, clear communication with primary care clinicians, and a patient- and family-centered approach.

As part of a major academic medical center, our adolescent medicine consultative service works in close collaboration with a variety of other specialty services at Duke. Our team will assist in coordination of care to ensure comprehensive and excellent services.

We offer consultations for a variety of clinical circumstances, including:

  • Medically complex patients with chronic illness
  • Adolescents with health issues more typical of adults
  • Menstrual disorders
  • Obesity and insulin resistance
  • Eating disorders
  • Sexually transmitted infections
  • Complex contraceptive care
  • Male health issues
  • Other medically-compromising risk behaviors
  • Older adolescents who may benefit from support in transitioning to adult care

We see patients by referral only. For adolescent primary care services, please call 888-ASK-DUKE (888-275-3853). For patients and families interested in adolescent medicine consultative services, please speak with your primary care provider who can facilitate a referral.
