Duke Children's Primary Care offers several resources if you need medical advice or care for your child between appointments or when our offices are closed.

In an emergency, call 911.

Nurse Advice Line

Staffed by registered nurses from Duke Children’s Primary Care, the Nurse Advice Line is the number parents should call during normal business hours to speak with a nurse about:

  • Routine pediatric health care issues
  • Resources or referrals for more complex health issues
  • Requests for prescription refills

Call 919-620-5333 for the Nurse Advice Line.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

After-Hours Triage Nurse

If you have a sick child and feel that you need medical advice after hours or on the weekends, please call 919-966-3820 or 888-267-3675 (toll free).

Poison Control

In cases of suspected poisoning -- or if you need drug information or help with pill identification -- you may call the following toll-free number 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, from anywhere in the country: 800-222-1222

Urgent Care

Urgent care offers a convenient and less expensive alternative to the emergency room. We offer urgent care at:

  • Duke Urgent Care Center
  • Duke Urgent Care South

Other Services

The Duke Healthy Lifestyles for Children program, a lifestyle management intervention designed for families with overweight children, is available at our Roxboro Road location.

Mental health services are provided to patients of Duke Children's Primary Care at our Roxboro Road and Southpoint locations. We provide special testing (including ADD and learning disorders), developmental evaluation, and short-term counseling.
