Acne can prove to be emotionally traumatic on its sufferers. The majority of acne occurs during the teenage years when adolescents are prone to self-consciousness. Dealing with severe acne at this stage in life often leaves teenagers feeling depressed and wanting to avoid social situations. Now, they don’t have to.

At the Duke Aesthetics Center, our medical aestheticians and dermatologists are experts in acne treatment. No matter what age you are or where you are experiencing breakouts, we can provide solutions.

We offer a wide range of options so that we can cater to each individual patient’s needs.

Mild to Moderate Acne

All acne is not the same and therefore must be treated in different ways. For mild to moderate cases we may recommend topical medications to dry up the oil and promote skin peeling. These may contain benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, resorcinol, salicylic acid or vitamin A derivatives (retinoids).

In other circumstances, antibiotics (such as tetracycline or erythromycin) may be prescribed. Sometimes topical antibiotics (applied to a specific area of the skin), such as clindamycin or erythromycin, are also used to control infection.

Severe Acne

For severe acne we may pursue synthetic vitamin A analogues (isotretinoin, Accutane) which have been proven very effective in some of the worst scenarios. Finally, if we feel it is necessary we may advise surgical intervention including professional (chemical) skin peeling, removal of eruptions or scars (dermabrasion), or removal and drainage of cysts.

Choose to Be Acne-Free

Acne is not a condition you have to live with; there are treatments available to clear up your acne forever. Come visit our professionals at the Duke Aesthetics Center to find out which regimen will work best for you. Healthy, clear skin is just a short treatment away.
