The Duke Raleigh Hospital Guild was chartered in 2005 to help support the mission and services of the hospital, both onsite and throughout the community. Through outreach patient support, education and public relations, the Guild helps reinforce the hospital’s message of health, wellness and caring for all. Special projects of the Guild include activities of the Health, Arts and Healing committee, The Guilded Lily Gift Shop, Birdwood and The Duke Raleigh Gardens.

The Health, Arts and Healing initiative seeks to incorporate the arts as a component of extraordinary care at Duke Raleigh Hospital. The committee incorporates visual arts, pottery demonstrations, music and literary works to demonstrate the role that arts can play in enhancing the healing process by reducing stress and creating an uplifting, inspirational environment.

The beautiful Guilded Lily Gift Shop in the front lobby of Duke Raleigh Hospital is operated by The Guild. The gift shop is open weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for patients and visitors to send flowers or gifts to patient rooms and for the community at large to enjoy boutique shopping.

In 2005, the Guild began plans to restore Birdwood, a treasured home in northeast Raleigh and its five acres of gardens and woods. When completed, Birdwood will be available for events and meetings.

The Guild’s latest project is The Duke Raleigh Gardens, a three phase project located on the hospital campus that includes water features, walking paths and foliage with North Carolina’s native plants. The Gardens provide patients and families a peaceful, tranquil place to relax and reflect.

Opportunities for Guild membership and volunteering are available. Membership in the Guild is $50 for a two-year membership including monthly luncheon meetings and special events that encourage the spirit of volunteering.
