An extraordinary act of philanthropy -- a bequest from North
Carolina industrialist James Buchanan Duke -- established Duke
University Hospital, School of Medicine, and School of Nursing
in 1924.
Since then, hundreds of philanthropically-minded people and
organizations have powered Duke Medicine to its current
position as one of the youngest and most outstanding academic
health systems in the world.
The Office of
Development and Alumni Affairs is a team of professionals
dedicated to cultivating philanthropic partnerships in support
of Duke Medicine’s mission: to transform medicine and health
locally and globally—through innovative scientific research,
rapid translation of breakthrough discoveries, educating future
scientific and clinical leaders, advocating and practicing
evidence-based medicine to improve community health, and
leading efforts to eliminate health inequalities.
