Research Interests
As a clinician/educator in the Division of Nephrology, my activities are mainly focused on the care of patients with end-stage renal disease.  I am a Medical Director of a dialysis unit in Henderson, NC which cares for approximately 150 patients.  I am a rounding nephrologist at a dialysis unit in Warrenton, NC where I and my partners care for roughly 40 patients.  I am Medical Director of DaVita -- Durham West at Home, a home hemodialysis program.  When at Duke, my activities are focused on inpatient care of maintenance dialysis patients and general consultative nephrology.  In addition, I see outpatients with a variety of nephrologic problems (renal failure, nephrotic syndrome, renal osteodystropy, renal stones, and hypertension) in the Private Diagnostic Clinic.  I mentor a fellow in this outpatient clinic.

Since July 2008, I have been Clinical Director of the Division of Nephrology.  As such, I am the Medical Director of Dialysis -- for both the outpatient dialysis unit on Morreene Road and for the inpatient dialysis unit in Duke University Hospital.  As Clinical Director, I am also responsible for the organization of the clinical services provided by the Division of Nephrology, for maintaining a solid relationship with our dialysis partners, and for helping to plan for the future, both in terms of clinical services and of manpower.

Key words: end-stage renal disease, vascular access for hemodialysis, renal osteodystrophy, consultative Nephrology.
