Research Interests:
My areas of research support investigation into the optimal perioperative care of the cardiothoracic patient, predictors of CAD, perioperative cognition, adverse outcomes after surgery and oxygen therapeutic research. This includes supporting trials of novel pharmaceutical agents, or devices to improve outcomes. I am also involved in a long-term departmental effort to study the effects of anesthesia and surgery in the geriatric patient, especially with respect to effects on pulmonary function, cognition, benefits of regional versus general anesthesia, coagulation and quality of life. Nationally, I am a member of the National Emphysema Treatment Trial group. I am also undertaking research to investigate the optimal methods for education of the practicing physician, especially to assess teh efficacy of an educational intervention.
