Where did you receive your undergraduate and/or medical training?
I received my undergraduate degree from Stanford University. I went to medical school at Duke University.

How long have you been at Duke?
I’ve been at Duke since 1993.

Have you received any awards or honors? Do you sit on any boards or journals?
At the American Heart Association 2004 Scientific Sessions, I received the Clinical Science Award, Scientific Sessions; Poster Competition. I was included in Guide to America’s Top Pediatricians 2004-2005, Consumers’ Research Council of America. I am an associate editor for the American Heart Journal.

What are your board certifications and society memberships?
I am board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in general pediatrics and pediatric cardiology.

I’m a member of AAP and AHA.

What led you into the field of pediatric cardiology/pediatric cardiac surgery?
I was interested in improving the healthcare of children with heart problems.

What are your areas of sub-specialty and how have things changed since you entered the field?
Cardiac imaging and clinical trials are my sub-specialties. There have been newer and improved technologies available over time.

Are you involved with any clinical trials or research studies? If so, what are you examining?
I am involved with various NIH and industry-sponsored clinical trials examining childhood hypertension, hyperlipidemia, heart failure and thrombosis.

What is the focus of your current research and how will your research contribute to the field of medicine?
Pharmacologic therapies in children; more studies are needed to establish the correct dose and to establish whether these therapies are safe and effective in young children.
