Research Interests
My current research is focused on clinical trials and new device development for the treatment of coronary and peripheral vascular disease. I have also been a co-principle investigator for the Gusto IIb substudy comparing direct angioplasty vs thrombolytics for treatment of acute myocardial infarction. Our group has pioneered the use of coronary angioplasty techniques for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease. Our program is the first U.S. site for Carotid Wallstent Clinical Trial, which is a randomized trial of the Wallstent versus carotid endarterectomy. I am involved in the development of database tools to allow determination of clinical and economic outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease. I am participating in the collaborative effort to combine interventional techniques and surgical techniques and perform state of the art minimally invasive coronary bypass grafting in a combined cardiac catheterization/surgical suite.
