General thoracic imaging, PET imaging of the thorax, interventional procedures in the thorax, biomarkers
Research Interests:
There are numerous ongoing clinical and basic science investigations in the Thoracic Radiology Section.
Our laboratory work focuses on three fundamental translational areas;
1) Development of molecular imaging probes - We have used several different approaches, including phage display, and in collaboration with our colleagues in the Chemistry Department, a mass spectrometry based method. These efforts are to develop novel imaging probes that characterize and phenotype tumors.
2) Discovery of novel lung cancer biomarkers – We have used a proteomics approach to discover serum protein biomarkers and developed a protein microarray for the detection of serum autoantibodies. These biomarkers are being evaluated as serum tests for the diagnosis of lung cancer.
3) Early cancer detection and understanding metastasis – In our effort to improve early detection strategies, we have several projects that study the process of metastasis. We are trying to understand the tumor-host interaction, and possible regulatory effects of the immune response in tumors.
