Aurora Pryor is originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan. She moved to North Carolina to attend Duke University where she completed a dual degree in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering.
She continued her education at Duke, receiving her medical degree, surgical residency, and an Advanced Fellowship in Laparoscopic Surgery.
Since joining the faculty at Duke in 2003, Dr. Pryor has focused on minimally invasive surgery, with a focus on novel techniques. Her practice includes foregut, weight loss, and GI surgery in general.
She offers gastric bypass, gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy and revisional surgery. Most of these are performed laparoscopically. She also performs endoscopic procedures.
Her roles at Duke include Division Chief of General Surgery at Durham Regional Hospital, Associate Program Director of the Duke General Surgery Residency Program, and Medical Director of the Surgical Education and Activities Lab (SEAL).
Her most recent national accomplishment is a new position on the board of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, where she also serves as Chair of the Research and Career Development Committee.
