Research Interests:
My focus has been at the interface of clinical research within the practice of general internal medicine, measuring interventions to improve the burden of chronic illness.  I have assisted studies in many areas including depression, osteoarthritis, and vascular disease.  Since 2003 I have been a co-investigator for a NHLBI/NIH hypertension study led by Drs. Oddone and Bosworth.

A second part of my career involves clinical informatics and the impact of emerging technologies on information.  In 2005 my EBM colleagues along with Paul Fontelo of the National Library of Medicine conducted a study of a PubMed (Medline) interface using a tool for a "problem-focused question."  In 2006 I was an author of a paper reviewing the use of information technology in infectious diseases.  Currently I am the PI for a telemedicine project sponsored by the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  We will establish telemedicine cancer genetic counseling in 4 rural cancer clinics in N.C.

I serve at times as a clinical informatics consultant in research -- presently for researchers at the Regenstrief Institute of Indiana University regarding "new drug labeling knowledge for e-prescribing."
