Clinical Interests:
Medical ethics, pediatric oncology, childhood cancers (leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors), long-term follow-up of childhood cancer survivors

Research Interests:
I have two main interests:
1.  Clinical Ethics.  My main interests are clinical ethics with a concentration in medical decision-making.  I have done work in the area of the ethics of planning for pandemic influenza.  I  play a major role in the Clinical Ethics Service at Duke Hospital; As of September 1, 2005 I have assumed the post of Director of Clinical Ethics for Duke Hospital.  
2.  Long-Term Survivors of Childhood and Young Adult Cancer.  I have been specifically interested in the psychosocial functioning of adult survivors of childhood cancer and their parents as well as in the ethical issues surrounding gonadal function preservation in cancer patients.

Collaborations:
Dr. Carlos Decastro is the co-Director of the Long-Term Follow-Up Clinic.  Collaborators in the Cancer Control Program include Drs. Melanie Bonner and Kristi Hardy.  I work closely with Profs. Alex Rosenberg, David Wong and Allen Buchanan in the Dept. of Philosophy.
