Research Interests:
As a clinician and clinical researcher in the Division of Nephrology, my activities are mainly focused on the care of patients with end-stage renal disease.  I am Co-Director of a maintenance hemodialysis unit in Henderson, NC which cares for approximately 135 patients from Vance, Granville, and Warren Counties.  In order to provide excellent nephrologic care for patients prior to the need for dialysis, I am involved in an active outreach clinic at Maria Parham Hospital.  I will also be a Co-Medical Director at a maintenance hemodialysis unit in Warrenton, NC where we serve 19 patients from Warren County.  When at Duke, my activities are focused on inpatient care of maintenance dialysis patients and general consultative nephrology.  In addition, I see outpatients with a variety of nephrologic problems (renal failure, nephrotic syndrome, renal osteodystropy, renal stones, and hypertension) in the Private Diagnostic Clinic.

My research efforts also focus on end-stage renal disease, especially vascular access for hemodialysis.  Our dialysis unit in Henderson is involved in a multi-center NIH sponsored trial that examines the effects of the hemodialysis prescription on the morbidity and mortality of hemodialysis patients.

Key words: end-stage renal disease, vascular access for hemodialysis, renal osteodystrophy, consultative Nephrology.
