Clinical Interests:
Immunocompromised patients (especially HIV and transplant) and dermatological diseases, cutaneous infections, women's health including dermatoses of pregnancy and vulvar disorders

Research Interests:
1. Immunocompromised Patients

Most of my efforts with immunocompromised patients are with HIV-positive patients. I have a specialty clinic with these patients in the HIV-ID clinic and evaluate cutaneous manifestations present in this population. Specifically, I am evaluating the course of specific diseases as they pertain to viral load and CD4 count and how they may be altered by new medication regimens, including protease inhibitors. Additionally, I have completed a document on guidelines of care for infections/infestations, tumors, and inflammatory disorders in HIV-positive patients.

2. Women=s Health

I am specifically interested in vulvar disorders as they relate to dermatology and dermatoses of pregnancy. Currently, I am referred many of these patients for local and regional gynecologists and dermatologists. While most of this is in the clinical setting, clinical trials of different treatment options for specific disorders may be coordinated in the future when enough patients accrue.

3. Clinical Trials

I am currently involved in two clinical trials with HIV-positive patients.
1- An open label multi-center Safety and Efficacy Study of Topical Imiquimod 5% cream in the treatment of visible external genital/perianal warts in male and female patients.
2 - A phase I Trial to Determine the Safety, Tolerance and Antitumor effects of Ritonavir combined with Interferon Alpha-2B and Stavudine in patients with HIF- related Kaposi=s Sarcoma.

4. Expertise

I have written reviews on HIV and skin, Bartonella infections occurring in HIV and other immunocompromised settings, and case reports of various problems in this patient population. I have written by request for two textbooks on dermatology problems in pregnancy. National presentations include the Dermatology Summer Academy meeting and an invitation to participate in the Annual Dermatology Academy meeting February, 1997. I currently serve as a reviewer for two major dermatologic journals primarily in the context of HIV patients and cutaneous disease. I have been named as a member of the American Academy of Dermatology=s HIV Disease Task Force.

5. Key words: HIV, Immunocompromised Patients, Cutaneous Infections, Vulvar Dermatoses, Dermatoses of Pregnancy.
