Asthma, lung cancer, chronic obstructive lung disease, sarcoidosis, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, atypical chest infections, critical care medicine

Research Interests:
The majority of my effort is devoted to clinical care and teaching. I have several administrative responsibilities. I am the chairman of the Duke Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. I am also a member of the Performance Improvement Oversight Committee and the Peer Review Committee of Duke Hospital.

My current research efforts focus on examining the relationship between poetry and the practice of medicine. My particular interest is in evaluating the utility of poetry in improving communication skills of physicians in training. I am involved in on-going collaboration with Duke faculty in the liberal arts and other health professionals.
