Pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial lung diseases, lung transplantation
Research Interests:
The general focus of my research interests is 1)new treatment for fibrotic lung diseases, 2) and understanding the genetic basis of pulmonary fibrosis, The diseases of interest are idiopathic intersitial pneumonias. I am involved in Industry-based and NIH/DCRI-based clinical trials in IPF. I am PI at Duke and collaborating with investigators at NIEHS, National Jewish Hospital, U. Colorado, and Vanderbilt on a genome-wide screen in familial pulmonary fibrosis. We have an extensive clinical database and DNA repository on over 500 families. We have identified several candidate loci and genes in these areas of linkage are being investigated for disease-susceptability mutations. There is apple opportunitiy to participate in clinical, basic, or translational research in these areas.
