Research Interests:
Dr. Svetkey is the Director of the Duke Hypertension Center, and Director of Clinical Research at the Sarah W. Stedman Nutrition and Metabolism Center. She has over 20 years of experience in the investigation of human hypertension and related areas, such as obesity and kidney disease.  Her research focuses on 1) dietary influences on blood pressure; 2) non-pharmacologic interventions for preventing and treating hypertension; 3) genetics of hypertension; 4) interventions for sustained weight control; 5) metabolic effects of obesity and weight loss; 6) effect of chronic kidney disease on blood pressure and blood pressure-related outcomes; 7) patient and physician interventions for improving blood pressure control; and 8)  racial disparities in blood pressure control, an area that interacts with several of the other areas listed above.
