Fellowship:
  • Cardiology, Duke University Medical Center, North Carolina, 1975-1977

Clinical Interests:
Valvular and adult congenital heart disease, myocardial and pericardial disease, complex cardiovascular problems, pulmonary hypertension

Research Interests:
The major areas of research involve mostly hemodynamic research in five areas:
1.Valvular heart disease.  One of the largest valvuloplasty programs in the country is operative.  Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy treatment with alcohol ablation is also performed.
2. Adult congenital heart disease.  A large program and all invasive devices, including ASD occlusion, PFO occlusion, stenting of stenotic vessels and coil occlusion of patent ductus and unwanted shunts.
3.Digital imaging research, including studies with contrast media.
4.Ventricular hemodynamics.  Includes use of pressure-volume data from conductance catheter studies in man and swine.

The Valvular Disease Program, and Adult Congenital Program are nationally recognized.  Dr. Bashore is on the Editorial Boards of Circulation, the American Journal of Cardiology, Cardiac Catheterization and cardiovascular Diagnosis, Emergency Medicine, the American Heart Journal and Cardiology Today.  He is also Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Training Program and on a variety of national committees with the American College of Cardiology.  Dr. J. Kevin Harrison, Dr. Andrew Wang, and Dr. Tom Gehrig complement the research team along with a variety of research personnel.
