Junior Volunteers

Want a fun-filled, rewarding summer experience as a volunteer in a busy medical center? If you are 14-18 years of age and are interested in learning more about the health care field or how a hospital operates, this is a great program to get involved in.

There are a number of departments that sponsor students to volunteer in their areas throughout all of Duke Medicine including, but not limited to, the opportunities listed below.

Junior Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers help provide these services:

  • Gift Shops/Snack Bar
    • Assist with selling merchandise
    • Stock and clean shelves
  • Patient Areas
    • Greet patients and visitors
  • Clinical Areas
    • Perform clerical tasks: photocopy, fax, type
    • Provide computer assistance
    • Answer phones, run errands

Program location: Duke University Hospital, Duke outpatient clinics, and off-site Duke patient clinics
Training provided: All accepted applicants must attend the mandatory hospital orientation held Saturday, May 22nd, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Orientation will consist of fire and safety, compliance, HIPAA, service recovery training and general volunteer guidelines. Departmental orientation will take place the first day of volunteering with the assigned area and supervisor.
