Duke Hospital Auxiliary has been a vital part of Duke University Hospital since 1950.
Auxiliary volunteers work in the “Pink Smock” Gift Shops and the Kidz Need Hugz program. Additional opportunities include the Book/Magazine Cart, the Just a Buck Cart, and Special Fundraising Vendor Sales. New and Exciting Volunteer Opportunities also include the Maternal Angels Volunteer Program.
Duke Hospital Auxiliary is seeking volunteers to provide retail service to the visitors and staff of Duke University Medical Center. Volunteer opportunities are available in each of the Medical Center's three gift shops.
The ability to smile under pressure, a desire to assist visitors and staff, and excellent customer service skills are a must. Appropriate verbal skills and a good energy level are always appreciated.
Application requirements: The volunteers begin with a preliminary interview to ensure their interest in making a serious commitment. A background check, current TB test, and references are required. Volunteers must also complete a health review form.
Training provided: Fire & Safety and Compliance training, as well as on-the-job training from the gift shop manager.
Time commitment: Minimum two hours per week for a year.
Maternal Angels Description:
Volunteers welcome visitors to the maternity ward and provide help and support through compassionate listening to the patients as well as offer free hot tea and snacks through cart services. Volunteers will also assist with a script based follow-up phone call to previously discharged patients.
