Before Your Appointment

To schedule a sleep study ( polysomnogram) a patient must be referred by a physician.

Patients can be referred by their own physician for an overnight sleep study or may schedule an appointment with a Duke AASM board-certified sleep specialist by calling 919-681-7600 for a consultation.

When You Arrive at the Laboratory

When you arrive at the Millennium Hotel, you should enter through the Sleep Laboratory's dedicated entrance on the east side of the hotel. Follow the signs to the Sleep Laboratory reception area and check in with the clinic service coordinator.

If you have not completed a new patient form, you will be asked to complete this, as well as read and sign a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) information brochure. This is required by the U.S. government.

The technologist will show you to one of our private sleep rooms when it is available. We do our best to keep on schedule, but can sometimes get delayed by unforeseen circumstances.

In general, please try to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

The technologist will ask you a few questions and help you get settled into your room.

Advise the technologist of any allergies you have, medications you are taking, or any special needs that you may have.
