Tips to Help Us Serve You Better

Share

Thank you for choosing Duke Primary Care Knightdale to partner with you in the maintenance and promotion of your good health. We look forward to caring for you.

Appointments: If you need to be seen by one of our providers, an appointment is necessary. Appointments can be made by calling 919-373-1810.

Same day appointments: If you have a medical problem that you feel needs a same-day appointment, please follow the above directions. Our schedulers have access to each provider’s schedules for the day and can tell you of any available openings. If all schedules appear full for the day, they will connect you with a nurse who will discuss options for treatment with you.

Please note: Same-day appointments may not be available with your regular provider. However, for patients that need same-day attention, we strive to provide treatment by one our qualified providers.

After hours: A provider can be reached by phone for medical emergencies that can not wait until our next business day.  If the clinic is closed, and you have a medical problem that can not wait, please call our office and follow the instructions for contacting the on-call provider. Please note: medication refills and dispensation of antibiotics will not be handled by the on-call provider.

No shows and cancellations: As a courtesy to fellow patients and your provider, please provide a minimum of a 24-hour notice if you are unable to keep your appointment for any reason.

Severe weather: In case of severe weather, please call our office to confirm if we are open. If we are open, but you choose not to keep your appointment, please call to cancel.

Walk-ins: Patients are not seen on a walk-in basis. An appointment is needed. Please follow the previously described procedure for appointments.

Laboratory: If your doctor has ordered lab work to be done either before or after your scheduled appointment, you may have that done without an appointment. Our  walk-in laboratory hours are 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. Patients are taken within those hours on a first- come first-served basis. Lab results normally take from three to five business days to receive. Your provider will discuss with you how you will receive these results.

Nurse-only appointments: Your provider may request that you come by the clinic for a blood pressure check or to receive an injection from the nursing staff. This is done without an appointment.

Prescription refills: If you need a refill on a medicine previously given to you by one of our providers, please call your pharmacy and request the medicine be refilled. The pharmacy will fax us the request and we will process the request and fax it back to them. Our turn around time for prescription refills is 24-48 hours. Prescription refills will not be handled by the on-call provider.

Written prescriptions: For medications that require a written prescription each time (certain pain medicine and certain mail order prescriptions) call the office at 919-373-1810 and follow the instructions for reaching a nurse.

Please note: Always allow a full 24 hours for this type of prescription.

Insurance: Please bring your insurance card with you to each appointment. Patients are expected to pay co-pays, coinsurance amounts and known deductible amounts at the time of their visit. Patients who do not have their insurance card with them at the time of their visit or who do not have insurance coverage are expected to pay, in full, at the time of the service unless prior arrangements have been. We accept cash, checks, Mastercard, Visa and Discover. There is a $25 fee for returned checks.

Completion of forms: We receive requests to complete a wide variety of forms for patients. Some can be filled out by your provider without an appointment needed and some may not. Many times we are unable to determine if an appointment is needed until the provider has had an opportunity to review the form and your medical chart. If the form can be completed without an appointment, it will be done and you will be contacted once it is complete. Please allow 24-48 hours for completion. A  charge may apply in these cases. If the provider determines an appointment is necessary, you will be contacted to schedule that appointment. If an appointment is needed, an office visit will be billed but an additional fee for completion of the form will not be charged.

Medical Records Release: You may have your medical records released to other medical providers of your choice.  Your medical information is confidential and requires your written permission prior to release. Please allow 10 business days for the release of information. You may receive a bill from an outside source for this service. Written permission from you is also required to leave messages on answering machines, cell phones, or to speak with family member. Please make arrangements to provider written permission if applicable.

Minors: Minor children, under the age of 18, can not be seen without a parent or legal guardian present. If you are unable to accompany your child to his or her visit, you must send written permission allowing Duke Primary Care Knightdale to see your child.

Please note: Children seen without a parent often are unable to properly communicate the context of their visit with the provider. To avoid missed or incorrect information, we strongly encourage you to attend the visit with your child.

Severe weather: In case of severe weather, please call our office to confirm if we are open. If we are open, but you choose not to keep your appointment, please call to cancel.

Cell phones: We request that all cell phones be turned off upon entering the building.
