Additional Details

Neonatologists and neonatal nurse–practitioners from Duke University Medical Center care for high-risk, premature (30 weeks and above), and low birth-weight newborns in the 12-bed level II/III special care neonatal nursery.

The nursery, directed by an on-site board-certified neonatologist, maintains a maximum nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3. Neonatal coverage includes a registered nurse from the neonatal nursery attending all deliveries. Deliveries identified as high-risk and cesarean sections are attended by a neonatologist or neonatal nurse–practitioner, respiratory therapist, and registered nurse.
