With some 3,000 procedures performed annually, Duke’s interventional cardiology program is one of the country’s largest and most experienced.
A leader in catheter-based intervention for valvular heart disease for more than 20 years, we employ sophisticated, evidence-based technologies and procedures, including:
- Hybrid PCI and valve replacement, a two-part minimally invasive procedure that combines stent placement with mitral or aortic valve repair or replacement
- Aortic and mitral balloon valvuloplasty
- Thrombectomy extraction catheters
- Laser ablation and rotoblator atherectomy for total coronary and peripheral occlusions
- Intravascular ultrasound and coronary pressure-wire assessment
- Percutaneous treatment of congenital heart defects
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement for aortic stenosis patients at high risk for standard valve surgery
- Echocardiography -- including intracardiac, transthoracic, and transesophageal
- Percutaneous left ventricular support devices, including Impella and TandemHeart
Duke also takes part in scores of clinical trials for novel cardiac-catheterization drugs and devices.
