Duke is one of the leading implementers of thoracic stent grafts in the United States.
Still a relatively new procedure for the treatment of thoracic aortic disease, endovascular repair involves placement of a stent graft inside the aorta to cover and exclude the affected areas from the blood circulation.
The graft is held in place by fitting tightly up against the aortic wall. Our doctors insert the graft through a catheter by making a small incision in the artery in your groin and directing the catheter up into the aorta.
Less invasive than traditional open surgery, this therapy allows patients to recover faster, and results in less morbidity and mortality. Endovascular repair is also a good option for patients whose age or other medical conditions may preclude them from being able to tolerate an open surgery.
