Florida boy airlifted to Duke for reconstruction of severed fingers
Plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Scott Hollenbeck and nearly a dozen others worked for 15 hours on five-year-old Ben Bowersox after he was airlifted to Duke University Hospital from Jacksonville, Florida. Bowersox suffered multiple breaks to both arms and had several fingers cut off when they were caught in the cable of a motorized door at an airplane hanger. Duke's surgeons are the only ones in the region with the expertise to perform the intricate procedure to reattach the fingers.
